Basics - What's a Game Controller?

A Game Controller provides input to a Video Game.

  • Left Stick AND Right Stick - These are small joysticks. They move directionally. Upon being pressed they also act as clickable buttons.

  • Left Bumper AND Right Bumper - They let you jump between sections of the gaming interface. They can have other functionality depending on the design and nature of the game.

  • Directional Pad (D-Pad) - It is used to move focus up, down, right and left in the gaming interface.

  • A, B, X, Y buttons - They are used to interact with the game and console interface. Y-Button is in the top position. B-Button is in the right position. A-Button is in the bottom position. X-Button is in the left position.
